Brief Introduction to Tainan City Public Health Bureau
Our Bureau was founded on March 1, 1947 under Government order. At that time, its title was Tainan City Health Yuan, the address of which was No.2, Jhongyi Road, Central District. It had four divisions: General Affairs, Disease Control, Medical Affairs, and Health Promotion.
In 1949, the four divisions were changed into the First, the Second, and the Third Sections. In April of the same year, two local health offices were established in the South District and the Annan District. In March, 1951, local health offices were built in the East Area, North District, and the Anping District, and again, in May, 1952, the West District health office was built. In September, 1952, the original three sections were expanded to four sections, and, meanwhile, an additional laboratory was set up. Furthermore, in June, 1959, a midwifery care room was built. In 1977, our Health Yuan was moved and rebuilt in No. 127, Jhongshan Road, and the Central District health office was opened at the original site of our Health Yuan (No.2, Jhongyi Road). Thereupon, each of the seven administrative districts had a local health office for poly-clinic treatment and public health affairs, and because of this, the administrative affairs regarding public health in our city was attaining soundness.
